Well not yet ...but Maybe!

With all the posts seeking info on various conditions, wouldn't it be great if we had access to live imagery from atop the Glenora Ferry which is constantly on the move for all to see via the internet...Live and year round?

Other Tourism regions have taken advantage of such technology to support tourism and something similar for Quinte, especially aboard a ferry would be quite unique.

I posed the idea with the PEC Chamber and Tourism who thinks the idea may just have some merit...be nice to hear from those that would take advantage of it.

Feel free to comment.

Funny that this pops up today when I spent some time yesterday browsing the internet looking for a Quinte webcam. A fantastic idea! I have a few other webcam sites I use to check out the conditions for ice up and ice out.

If there is an Internet connection there and a good view from a window inside someone's house that lives on the shore it would be an easy cheap set up with a dlink wireless cam. They are about $65 at the liquidation store in the Frontenac mall. Not sure if this device can be set up with public access but could be setup and private access could be given to friends.

It would be quite nice if the boat launch was part of the view
Cheers Ron

Great Idea Walleye Won, heres exactly what we need go here. http://www.earthcam.com/

In the search criteria, put Toronto, or if your familiar with Florida often I go to Anna Maria Island, or Treasure Island, and Sanibel are all places I have fished and like to look during these long Winter months. It would be perfect around the Glenora Ferry area, now them have them that they pan, so you could almost pan from there to the cement plan. Worth passing on to PEC Tourism.

Wow...the detail and resolution is quite impressive thanks for sharing, a new web site to visit!

The chap from PEC Tourism/Chamber said he would periodically check in on the post to gather some comments and gage some interest. There are quite a few similar Ferry Terminal Cams mostly on the west coast.

I think it would be a great idea for all kinds of tourism interests, fishing included.

Well as much as I hate the thoughts of being watched, that would be awesome.
Might not be the most productive though....I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one checking hourly..everyday...year round...lol

The Web cam could be paid by and sponsored by a tourist board or private companies that get to advertise on the webcam start page, like motels and fishing charter companies.

My sister used to live at lagoon city on Simcoe, there was a camera there she directed me to years ago and you could watch the ice form in the channel.
It was cool and would be greatly used if on the ferry, even to witness the 100k winds we just had! 8O

Great Idea, lets you see how the winds are compared to the forecast (and see who's cutting work...lol)

My understanding is that it will soon be part of the MTO Compass Cam system. The Wolfe Island ferry service is already on Compass. I imagine it will be something similar.

Hi Folks, I was able to obtain the contact information for the Earthcam group and I have the contact information. Can anyone suggest to me Which tourist organization for PEC or Quinte I should send it to. A contact name would be helpful too if you have one. Thanks Malcolm
