Does anybody know anything about an ice safety course in ontario? Is it offered anywhere near, Belleville or Kingston? I'v called St. John's ambulance and they have never heard of such a course or know of anything close being offered in our area.

Perhaps try contacting Raven Rescue to see if they have an Ice Safety & Rescue
course happening near by ?

Else the Ontario Fire College ?

There are a lot of videos on youtube you can watch. There are videos on what to do if you fall through and anything else you can think of. I know it is not real life training but it can't hurt to grab a bag of popcorn and sit down and watch some videos

as Shark said go with the vids online its good knowledge to have, dont think there is really a recreational course or the need for one for that matter. There is no recreational course to take for not getting hit by lightning but definately some common sense measures you can take to avoid it, just like going out on the ice.. Buy a spud and spikes, measure ice thickness continuously as you venture out, dont go out alone, have a rope handy and keep your cell phone in water proof bad so you can call 911.

hahaha grizzly can swim, but when its really cold I just walk on water lol . I would think the time to take such a course would be in the summer lol also probably why they never have such a course unless you work in a rescue field of some sort ..I really have no will to jump in cold water just to see if I can get out of cold water lol . best tip I have is .. STAY CALM........... as shark said watch a few vids on youtube. I can tell you this... when or if it happens you will not expect it to happen. and that's usually when you have let your guard down stay calm and get out. that winter water is dam cold............. now. someone hold my beer, and WATCH THIS! .lol
