ENFORCEMENT BLITZ NETS CHARGES FOR HUNTERS AND ANGLERS

QUINTE - A day long enforcement blitz has led to 11 hunters and anglers being charged and others being issued warnings.

The blitz was conducted October 23 by Environment Canada's Canadian Wildlife Service (CWS) and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR).

Officers from MNR's Belleville, Tweed and Glenora offices and the Burlington CWS office checked 72 people, with particular focus on waterfowl hunters in the Trent River, Presqu'ile Provincial Park, Brighton Bay, Weller's Bay and Bay of Quinte.

The 15 charges and warnings included:

failing to have a migratory hunting permit while hunting;
failing to have a migratory game bird hunting permit properly completed;
failing to immediately make every reasonable effort to retrieve a killed migratory game bird;
failing to hunt from a rented blind;
angling without a licence; and
unlawfully angling in open waters with more than one line.
Charges were laid under the federal Migratory Birds Regulations, Ontario's Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act and Ontario Fishery Regulations.

The public can report natural resource violations to their local ministry offices or to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
