We are hoping to try Lough on Friday and I just wanted to get an update on how the snow/ice conditions were. I'm hoping the mild spell knocked down the snow to make for easier walking. We will be accessing from Sydenham side from the launch. If you can updated me on how the fishing has been as well, that would be great but not necessary. We only get out there once a year so would like it to be a successful trip as we have never caught a laker before although we have only targeted them twice.

Was out there today and conditions were good for walking. Looks like there has been a secondary freeze on top of slush, so it looks a bit iffy for vehicles. Saw a snowmobile out there today but there looked to be a lot of spots where a quad or truck had broken through the top layer. There are about 20-24 inches of ice and not much snow. Fished about 3 hours today and 2 last week and came up empty both days, as did the other folks on the lake. Heard of one caught in 60-70 feet on Saturday.

The launch is off Sydenham Rd...right on Loughborough drive. It's about 8 minutes north of 401. I live on the lake and although I haven't been out this week, there are guys out daily off the launch. Probably pretty easy to find open holes..for now. Should freeze up in the next day or two again.

What depth are you fishing Habfan? I was thinking of heading deeper but maybe should go shallower?

I was about 60 feet for awhile, then 35 feet. I was thinking the same-maybe shallower, but no better result. Might be too soon for that as I've heard of another caught in 70 feet. Post your results if you go out Friday. Curious to hear if you have any better luck.

Fished 96 down to 29 feet today all chases and one short time hook up, lasted about 20 seconds. most activity for me was in the 70 to 45 feet range. Went in off the Sydenham boat launch. Lots of bare ice cleats not a bad idea if you have them.

I'll definitely let you know how we do if we go. I think maybe will try deep and move shallow if not marking anything. We will also bring our cleats. Thanks.

Most of my chases started at about 10 or so feet off the bottom with a turn around after a 15 -20 feet follow. Did not show any interest in White 3 or 4 inch tubes, mine were on 2 1/2 to 3 inch twister type baits on lure or jigs.

I was out there today from 8:30 to 2, caught 1 2.5lb'r and lost 2 others... didn't mark many. The last one I lost came rocketing off the bottom and chased up to 40 ft before it hit, it had some weight to it. There was a thin crust before you broke down into 5" of slush.... didn't make for great walking... and the sled was bogging down in spots. I went on at the Division St. ramp

Not familiar with that area where is the Division St. ramp?
Congrats on the catch.

The Division st launch is just past Inverary, there is a sign for it with a parking lot. Have always had better luck at that end off the shoal just to the left coming out of the narrows. Have done the best in 30-60' but have also caught them as shallow as 10'.

We won't be able to make it this Friday, home sick fighting a cold. Hopefully we can make it up next Friday. If anyone heads out this week, keep me updated. Thanks for all the replies.
