I don't remember seeing folks wearing helmets while driving their snowmobiles or 4wheelers across ice. Is this a requirement or can you travel around the ice helmetless?

Section 20 of the Motorized Snow Vehicles Act states you shall wear a helmet while operating a snowmobile. The one exception is if your on land occupied by the owner of the vehicle(private property).

I think this answers your question.

Same thing for ATVs....I found out the hard way using my bike as a tractor to pull a hut out on to the ice a few years ago...

Just a heads up,if riding anything that requires a helmet , you have to have the strap done up other wise you can get a fine for that!!!!!
