Guys,

Riding a Quad is new to me. I have been warned to always sit down when driving a bike in reverse. Apparently, you set yourself up for a near death experience if you back up your bike while standing. I keep hearing of cases where a standing driver stumbles and forces the throttle full. This usually happens when your leg hits the throttle.

Have you had any near misses like this?

Sounds like good advice. Reverse on a 4 wheeler is a bit dicey, particularly when standing up because you are raising your centre of gravity. I have a Polaris Sportsman, it limits speed in reverse. However, there is an override button if the rider wants full speed. Never had any reason to use it though.

Never put your foot down when moving as it can get caught by the rear wheel. I have seen fellows run over their foot, pull themselves off the machine and run themselves over! Take it easy until you get used to it.

Just take it slow and easy for a while, you will learn the do's and don'ts and if your going slow enough you will have time to react to the don'ts before they do.
