Hello Everyone,

Newbie to the board, live in Quinte West for the past ten years. Haven't taken advantage of the bay much in the winter these past years. Question? once the ice gets happening we will mostly be running from the shore of Ameliasburgh County rd 14 from the west side of the Island to the north side of Big Island with sleds. Any concerns with thin ice caused by currents we should be aware of? The bay looks shallow for the most part in that area.

Any tips would be great!

Thanks Thinice

You should be good here, no current to be aware of there. The closest area of concern would be Massassauga point, always thin or thinner there due to current.

Thanks very much for your help. We would always use caution on the Ice....buts it's nice to be given some tips on areas to avoid on such a large body of water.

Happy New Year!

I'd echo those sentiments in regards to current but please keep your eyes open for pressure cracks. There's usually one in the neighbourhood of cole pt or miller pt. See you out there!
