Hey guys I have a ice 55 last couple times out unit has been doing weird things I noticed I have to turn gain way up to see jig in 8 feet of water and even in deeper like 15 feet gain has to be high
Then yesterday fishing withy buddy in hut it would pick up his jig and not mine and it was down my hole ?
Tried drilling hole just for ducer by itself and same thing gain had to be up near 29 to 30 setting battery full charged just below ice surface clean connections on unit tducer level and clean
Then notice from bottom all the way back top all cluttered with different colours not the water column side ? Any ideas or advice only about 14 months old ?

I had the same problem with my Ice 45 last weekend. I was in 14 fow and would totally lose my lure for 5-10 minutes at a time. I had bottom zoom on, and gain on full (45-50) Tried narrow and wide beam also. Then it would appear for a while, and lose it again. On and off all day.
I watched a video on Youtube, and the guy demonstrating had his gain down to about 5-10 and would still mark his lure.

Mine was doing that last time I was out. I was in hay bay and noticed when the current would change the transducer was on a bit of angle and would get my buddies lure. The current kept changing but for most part I could get it to work by making my lure stay beneath it. Make sure transducer is not to low.

Could be the set screw that holds the disc tight , comes loose sometimes , doesn't spin as fast as it should when it loosens off and it acts weird , have to send back to hummingbird if so

It may be the transducer that is gone in it. You can purchase a replacement for the unit. I have had my 55 unit for I think 5-6 yrs, and it still runs like a top. Also Battery has never been changed and it will run all weekend. It has taken a serious beating over the years and I'm just waiting for the time I need to buy a new battery and transducer.

I've always had to crank the gain up to 20-25..I wouldn't worry about it

I had a very similar problem with my ice 35.

I recommend asking the question on the electronics forum monitored by radio world.

If you can find a buddy with a similar machine that is working good- switch transducers. This should tell you if your is functioning properly.

In my case the crystals in the transducer head were broken from being dropped on the ice. 130$ to replace last year but my machine is working fine.

My machine would not pick up my lure, then not even the bottom.
Hope this helps before you start replacing batteries ect.

Jeff
