Hey guys, went out to Wagers, and as my namesake says...skunkedagain....anyways, while fishing I got a huge mark on my flasher and got very excited. my buddy turned the camera that we use and low and behold there was a huge whitefish! It was aggressively following my lure up and down and when I would leave it still it would just turn away and show no interest. As soon as I would jig it again, it would get aggressive, but at no point did it strike. I was using a gold buckshot with 2 minnows.
My question is, does anyone target whitefish on the bay? If so, what should I have sent down the hole instead of the buckshot?

Williams Whitefish or buckshot? You try reeling slowly to see if it would chase or aggressively snap jig the lure?

I was fishing big bay too on the weekend when my screen starts showing a fish just 4 ft down. I peeked down the hole and there is a 5 ish lb whitefish with 4 firends all swimming around. I quickly reeled up and offerd my bait. They checked it out but had no interest in biting. They stayed around for 10 minutes then the school moved off. I had 2 holes drilled and they were mostly hanging right around my transducer. Wonder if they were attracted to the pinging noise? I have often thought about using a buddies hydrowave. http://www.hydrowave.com/

I tried just about everything. I even pulled the lure up and pulled off one of the minnows. The whitefish flew in again but stopped short of the bait. Rather frustrating! Only get to get out about about 2 or three days a winter because of kids, coaching, and work...would be nice to get something...would love to change my name to "skunked sometimes" instead of "again." At least it is time to spend in peace and quiet!

I saw a fellow at Huffs get 5 nice whitefish one after the other right in the middle of the day. As he walked by us on the way back that evening we asked what he was using. He said a silver spoon to get them wound up, as Bryan suggested, then sealed the deal with a single mud minnow on a 3/8 pink ball jig.
