I bought myself a gas auger for Christmas and it drilled holes perfect the first few times out. The last 2 times out I'd drill a few holes no problem, then on the next hole it would get about half way through, then stop cutting. I just keep trying to drill, then it would work again for some reason. This has happened a few times now. I never hit the blade on the ice, and I always keep the cover on when not in use.
Is this a common thing, or is it possible I just got a bad (bent) blade out of the box??

Thanks!!

Sounds to me like your getting some ice build up on the blades, try to keep your blades out of the snow after cutting your holes. Because once they ice up its like trying to filet a fish with a butter knife.

Good luck

You could try pre-spraying your blades with either a silicon or ice melter spray. BATMAN

I drilled 2 holes this morning. 1st hole was fine and only a few seconds later the auger wouldn't cut. There was some snow build up, but no ice. Didn't think snow build up would be an issue after only drilling a hole or two. I'll keep an eye on it next time out.

Thanks

This is a common problem, even after only a couple holes. BATMAN

100percent ice building up on blades, bottom, or grooves happens all the time If snow gets or ice!! A little bits causes problems

Well, sounds like this is a common problem with snow/ice buildup. I'll make sure the bottom is clean next time out. If that doesn't work, I'll look into returning it if possible. Just seems strange, cause I've been using an 8" hand auger for the last 4-5 years and only remember once having to clean ice off the blades.

Thanks!!

Be sure you let the auger do the cutting don't lean to hard. It allows the auger action to clear ice at the same rate u are cutting.
