For those of you who use your 4X4 ATV to get around fishing in the winter, do you use chains? If so, on all four wheels or just the rear wheels?

Just got a set this year for the back. They definitely made a difference. It would be interesting to hear if it is worth getting them on the front or not.

We'd suggest one addition for the poll; "front wheels only". There's a good reason, applicable during the ice fishing season, and/or for folks who also use their ATV for snow plowing. With any decent-sized driveway, significant snowfalls build up weight on the plow blade, and quickly create serious steering problems. Chains on the front wheels eliminate this, and also serve as a significant safety measure when encountering ice - on driveways, on hard water, or going up and down slippery hills. Without chains on the steering wheels you won't be going anywhere you want to go on ice. In four wheel drive, it's rare to really need those rear wheel chains, and you can save some bucks. We've used this set-up for 18 yrs with no problems. Wordpecker

I use the good chains with the "v" welded on each chain link. Man what a difference. Just using normal chains with no "v" welded on is a waste of time. Get yourself the good ones!! I was able to plow that road out at Bain all last year with just back chains on my quad.

It's the only ones that actually bite into the ice

I got the ones with the vee as well a couple weeks ago. Got mine from Belleville sport and lawn had they 2 sets left then, Trenton Motosports had one set. They only had sets for the rear tires, no fronts. I do find steering suffers with no chains on the front especially in deeper snow when you have a good bite with the rear tires.

I bought mine at Belleville sport and lawn for $70. I suggest if your going to put chains on the front to take er slow! I had a chain come of that back one time and almost smoked me...could you imagine if that was on the front....

Those look like sweet chains! But starting price seems steep, is that for all 4 corners?

I have a set from Canadian Chains and won't go with anything else. I've had the sets from CT as well as royal distributing. The problem with those was they have cross links every 4th rail link as such if you have deep lug tires they fall between the lugs. Also Canadian Chains are geared to more specific tire sizes. They also had very quick shipping
