I am headed up to Picton this weekend as mentioned in an earlier post (can you tell I'm fired up about it?) and wanted to get an idea of what the water depth the pickeral are being caught in.

A buddy of mine tells me that he usually has great success catching fish that are suspended at the 25' range. My question is what is the overall depth of the water as the bay ranges a fair bit from section to section. What is a good depth range to stay within to catch these suspended daytime walleyes? 30-35'? 30-40'?

Any tips or suggestions? Thanks!

I'd suggest 25-35'. I say that as most of the fish we've been catching have been in that range. And I don't mean just my boat. MAny of my friends have been up as well and are getting them in that range.

I have also been adding on occassion, a couple of bullet sinkers about 20-25 ft in front of my deep diver's to get them a tad lower. I'm guessing this gets them to the 35' range +/- 5ft. A tip which has proven successful.

I don't think you need to go much lower at this point in time!

I haven't run riggers in a few weeks, as I feel there's no need too. Most fish we were getting off riggers, were Sheepsheads anyway!

Thanks for the info!

Maybe I'll see you out there this weekend. I'm itching to get out on the water. It's been over a year since my last trip to Quinte.

Far too long.

Just to clarify, when you mention bullet sinkers, are you talking about split shots?
