Now that walleye is over ,
Any updates on river conditions? Or more specifically Is there any open water?
maybe some of the local boys have heard when city is going to start the yearly ice break up?
I thought last year was one of the latest seasons I had ever seen. but I think It is looking worse for this year
we have a large group of steeleheaders here so I know a lot of guys are wondering the same question
btw I am referring to the main river. I hate the no drift in the yacht club side!!

Ganny is froze solid out to the mouth. There is a huge pressure crack pushed up about 12' high. Be a while before she opens up.

Citing excessive ice build up, heavy snow pack and continuing sub zero temperatures, the Float Your Fanny Race has been postponed again this year for two weeks to April 18, so I guess the town, or at least the Race Committee is also exspecting a slow melt.Little easier on the fish perhaps.... :?:

I think it will be worse for the bows again this season!!
On the opener I fish the sylvan glen and/or welcome area and last year was one of my worst opens ever. Majority of the fish were still way down river, will probably be the same when port hope hosts "fanny down the ganny" and the Saturday fallowing is the opener!!!

Haven't been there this time of season in years but back in the day when she was too iced up we would fish the warm water outflow on the yacht club side just to get our steelie fix.

Thought last year was going to be a bust too but a lot of fish made a run for it the last week before openers!
Caught more last year than previous years!!

Not to impressed about The "fanny Race" 1 week before openers!!

I've been in the race, and it's a blast, and I know it has a huge economic impact for the town (of witch my business resides) but I can't believe the mnr lets it go on.....

Tuesday March 10 th, was still solid , few ice fishers down by the restaurant....seen more fishers over on the west side out on the break wall, so I guess its open way out at the end at least. Seen at least one fishing on east side, at the lighthouse, but it looks pretty icy on the rocks going out.

thks for the new update littledog,
it is going to take a long time for mother nature to get this moving!!
the city should have been down already to get things cleared up to avoid the flooding I am not sure what is taking so long?

He sold the business late last year and I really hate to see him go after 10 plus years!!!
there is now a new owner in place running the show. She is more of a food beverage operator and has plans to run full menu from breakfast through dinner and licensed
u coming down for the open? cocktails and camping at the baseball diamond (weather permitting) or we will be at the comfort inn
btw anyone who uses the rainbow café for fishing gear and ROE it is closed till further notice

Was the boat launch clear of ice yet? And how about the 12' wall of ice right at the mouth?
