Hey Dave,

welcome aboard!

I think your speed seems fine. We're typically 1.5-2.2 mph. I'd just suggest you also throw in the odd "pause" and some turns if you haven't been doing that.

Those suspending CC Wally Minnows can be deadly on the pause :!:

My fastest walleye on Q was 4.5 mph. I kid you not. 11 lber. If your lures are tuned right I prefer a little faster like 2.5. Always fish fast first and slow down if necessary.

Good point about the tuning. It's something I do religiously.

Well worth the effort.

I haven't had much success over 3 mph...But that's me! I certainly have heard of others like yourself doing well sometimes.

Should I have said that out loud :?:

Try going fast when you know there are lots of fish in an area. You know the days you are marking lots of big thick hooks in an area? Thats the time to try fast. Try 3 mph even for a good solid 2 hours before you dismiss it. The competetive nature of the fish will cause a reaction strike when they are bunched together. I was passing guys like they were sitting still day 3 two years ago at Port Clinton and had 5 inthe livewell in 45 minutes . I hardly saw another boat out of about 30 in the area git bit. They were all going slow which in Western Basin folklore. Slow gives them too much time to find something wrong with that funny plastic thing in many cases.

Couple weekends ago marked a ton of fish high, we shortened our lead off the boards, ran a tight running bait and control trolled with the wind at 3.5 - 4 mph. Higher, fast running bait created that reaction/competitive strike we feel. Same tech. we use in the big lake for browns and bows.
