I tried out a 13' float rod and is there ever a learning curve, lol. I was good at letting it float, but not so good at getting a good hook set . It was a lot of fun, but I won't be buying one yet.
Using fly and spey rods over the past 8-9 years has me okay with the longer rods. If I can make 1 suggestion to you from me about the longer rod it is a good steady pull to set and not a quick jerk will do you a better job when setting the hook. The lever is a lot longer and will remove the bait a lot quicker. Just my opinion here, works well for me.
