I attened the MNR public consultation mtg last night. It was nice to see some friends from the board there. It was not well attened in comparison to past mtgs. General overview on zone 20 was given along with some more details for Quinte walleye. Alot of the night surrounded the state of the coho, rainbows,trout and brown trout fisheries and stocking proposals.
In terms of the Bay of Quinte, some of the details presented covered the ice fishery and the open water fishery. 2014 ice fishery saw approximately 50,000 hrs of Angler effort with approx. 9,200 fish harvested. Note worthy but no suprise, the MNR noted the rise in use of technolpgy and Anglers who used flashers and traveled with portable huts had the best success rates overall. The open water fishery saw approx 200,000 hours of Angler effort and approx 28,600 fish harvested.
Commercial fishery was talked about and it was clearly stated that there is no commercial harvesting of walleye between trenton and glenora ferry. The commercial nets harvested approximately 8,400 walleye.
The alewife population was discussed and it was noted that when the size of the individual alewife was up the weight and fatness of the walleye went up as well. The opposite was also noted. The good news of the walleye presentation was that the population assessment shows that spawning in 2014 was highly successful and was one of the best spawning years since 1994. Bodes well for the future. Overall the walleye population is stable. Great report Dan, It was a very good presentation by the OMNRF.

Hey guys, you should read the Lake Ontario Stocking plan and make a comment.
The plan is a good one and there are some options. Especially for stocking brown trout in lake Ontario.
I really like option one for the browns. It will create 4 drive-to locations for a better fishery than we have at the present time.

It is very encouraging to hear about the walleye.

Did they comment about any other sportsfish, or by chance any upcoming invasive species to note like say in Lake Michigan with those Eurasian carp?

PS And yes I have been away. Lost my password and working of course. Looking forward to fishing the bay and area once or twice this June.
