Trolling the only way to go?

I have trolled a bit for walleye, but it bores the heck out of me. Is it the only way to be really successful when fishing for walleye? I have caught some walleye at other places while fishing for bass, pike etc. But on BOQ have had no luck so far. I have no issue spending all day out on the water, love it, just don't find trolling to be all that enjoyable, must be A.D.D. haha.

Absolutely not ! I catch 85% of my fish casting shoals and structure in the Bay with lead. The only time i break out my trolling gear is if nothing is biting and i need to cover water. This system goes for any body of water. Many times, the walleye will be in areas that are not troll-able, unless you like dragging weeds.

Awesome, thanks. There is just so much talk of trolling BOQ I was starting to think thats what it takes out there to have any consistent success.

Oh, I also drug a good mound of weeds on Monday afternoon, always awesome to retrieve the line and have er full of weeds haha. Real moral boost.

I'm with Biff, my favourite is to fish the weeds and structure. Usually cast crankbaits including shad raps, flicker shafs, TD 7&9 and husky jerks

trolling is easier.

but if your patient, have good understanding of the water, and most importantly confidence/experience, trolling certainly isn't required.

guys like hodgey used to put huge walleye (and good numbers) in the boat without trolling.

but that man put hundreds of hours on the water learning what was below the surface.

I troll all the time but my biggest walleye out of the boat came on a jig and worm.

I have caught mine all on spinner baits I am pretty sure, but I have only caught a few walleye as I have not targeted them specifically until I moved here a few weeks ago. And now being about 5 mins from the launch in Trenton, I want to target them but noticed alot of boys trolling. I personally enjoy drifting and casting various tackle until I see what works when fishing other species. I have been doing this out on the BOQ and have caught mostly bass so far. But I am sure that will change eventually. Heading out tomorrow after work for a night fish, so hoping that produces a midnight snack.
