Bay of Quinte angling survey—opening weekend results
The Bay of Quinte supports a high quality recreational fishery for Walleye. On May 2, 2015, MNRF’s Lake Ontario Management Unit initiated an angling survey for this important fishery. On the opening weekend of fishing (May 2 and 3), a total of 434 anglers in 180 boats (30% of the 591 boats counted) were interviewed by MNRF on-water boat patrols. Over 19,000 hours of fishing effort occurred during opening weekend. Anglers caught an estimated 1,339 Walleye. Walleye fishing success rate was average relative to previous years’ opening weekend surveys. Fifty-nine percent of anglers (255 of 434) interviewed indicated that they were participating in local angling tournaments. The Bay of Quinte open water angling survey will run until late-November. Knowledge of the Bay of Quinte angling fishery, including the size and quality of the fishery, will help guide the sustainable management and use of the Bay's fish resources.

Bay of Quinte angler diary program
For the last three years a volunteer angler diary program has been conducted on the Bay of Quinte fall recreational fishery for “trophy” Walleye. In June, we mailed out thank you letters to 23 volunteers participating in last fall’s program. The purpose of the program is to engage angler involvement in the monitoring of this important fishery. Anglers interested in the Fall Walleye Bay of Quinte Diary program can contact Jim.Hoyle@ontario.ca

I was one of the anglers interviewed but not on the opening. We were there the first week in June camping at Foster's Fishing center we did not catch any walleye.
I asked the MNR guys about the walleye and the said it is very slow, people are catching but putting in long hours for a few fish. It seems the fish is scattered all over the place.

Going back in 10 days to try again.

It was a real surprise on Monday past, when the MNR boat came by for a creel survey and the questioner called us by name, he was the son of an old friend and colleague of my wife's from her working days.

Nice to catch up on his recent history.

We had no fish to report for our three hours on the water.

The fishing HAS to get better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
