Steve Hamilton, mentioned awhile ago council was, once again, considering changes during the Salmon run, here is the recent local paper report of what those changes may be

As far as the spring trout run, when I watched the council meeting, "they" seemed to have the opinion that most of the problems were in the fall.

thks littledog for the update
As someone who fishes port hope very regularly with my boat and river fishing in the lower section
port hope needs some help however solution will be a difficult one!!
personally I would like a sanctuary from CNR tracks to Corbett's dam this entire section is 2ft deep and fish pile in on top of each other!!
Remain open above Corbett Dam there are miles and miles of water to fish but more importantly the fish are completely spread out after running over the dam while still allowing the river guys fishing opportunities
cheerz

I would love to see that chunk of river a sanctuary but then you'll have thousands of people fishing private property! Conservation area above Corbets Dam is the only area to fish before you reach private property! (Conservation Area isn't very big) There isn't miles of river to fish unless you're in a club!
I happen to have approx 3km of private property up river that i kick people off every year, with them becoming hostle to me for not letting them fish!
Some thing needs to be done downtown but as you stated, "will be very difficult" as it's only gotten worse the last very years! They need to deputize (spelling?) people during these times to have authority to Ticket etc the thousands of fishermen not obaying the regs! I'll gladly bust their a$$!
Also, spring and fall are both bad but yes, Salmon season is definatly worse!
