There are rumours swirling out there and I did not hear this first hand but that there were 2-3 grass carp found in commercial fisherman's nets on south side of bay around the Belleville's bay bridge??
Has anyone else heard this same rumour as I am surprised that it hasn't found its way to this site?
Heard they were adults in the 20-25 lb range which if found to be true would not surprise me in the least as it was only a few weeks ago there were a few caught or found in around the GTA.

I am also really surprised that the government hadn't at least I haven't read anything about them doing anything in the rivers to stop the bastards from reaching whatever they can to the north of the Bay!
I'm sure as would be most that they haven't done a thing and would be ever further surprised to find out they have even discussed an action plan to keep them out of the rivers above the damn.

I saw the electro boats. They are mean machines. Good news is the grass carp was a triploid (sterile) fish. I may be slightly mistaken but my understanding is In the US one can apply for a permit to get sterile grass carp to put in your pond to keep weeds under control. Apparently they are quite effective at controlling weeds. Periodically these fish get into the rivers and lake systems. The eggs are heated or something like this to make the adult fish a triploid or sterile. That is what the fish found in Quinte was.

This is bad news for quinte, for all our great lakes really, the good news is the response from the MNR. I wish they would take this issue more serious with preventing them from getting in, but from what I have read it seems fruitless. A main way of them coming in is eggs on birds feet from the Mississippi. Lets hope that it never gets that bad here or we can kiss a lot of our good fisheries good-bye.

I think the MNR is taking if VERY VERY seriously. They had 2 electro boats here within hours of the fish being caught. One of those boats came from Erie. They are certianly taking it very serious.

The other important fact to note is there are several species of "Asain Carp". The ones that you see jumping and going crazy or big head and silver carp. Not that grass carp are to be taken lightly but to my knowledge they are nowhere near the concern of a big head or silver carp find.
