For the last week or two we have been having success fishing largemouths with jerkbaits and jigs on deep weeds, and thought that was our plan again this morning but things changed fast. My partner had landed his first four plus pounder of the day on his third cast and lost a biggie a few casts later casting right to the bank in really shallow. I can be slow sometimes but not real dumb and started casting into shore. Before ten cast go by and bam I have a nice one. We spent our time on the water on the same half mile stretch of the shoreline within sight of my house and landed several limits of quality fat fish. We landed three fish over four pounds, best of all no dinks. Most fish were caught on bright coloured stick worms but the buzzbait and spinnerbait had their time. All the fish came in the first few feet of shore in 2-3 feet deep. Our best pass was six fish just before the rain started. Water temp in low 50's and water clarity was clear stained.

Great report...thanks. I love October fishing when the fish move up shallow. I'll be chasing smallies and walleye this weekend on Rice Lake. Eliminating deeper water makes it a bit easier to locate fish. I hope....
