propane auger or gas auger?

looking at buying a power auger but not sure which way to go, just wondering pros and cons on propane or gas power.
any suggestions would be great.

Battery powered augers seem to be getting popular also. You can do a "search" of older posts (top right of screen) This topic has come up before. There are lots of knowledgeable ice fisherman on this forum. You should be able to find the answers you are looking for.

I have a gas auger but if I had to do it again I would probably spend the extra money and go with electric to save weight. I havent tried any of the commercial electric augers but have used the clam plate made for a regular drill and the performance is excellent. Of course this all comes down to the drill, if you have access to a high end drill from work or something or just looking for an excuse to buy a high end drill then check out the clam set up. My cousin has one and when we go on ice fishing trips I dont even bother bringing my gas auger, the electric is almost as fast and last long enough to drill as many holes as we can fish in a day.

Stick with proven technology and u won't be let down when u hit the ice. I've always had gas augers and last year I went and bought 10" jiffy propane. I Had numerous issues and Returned it 2 weeks later for a new gas 1.

I have a Eskimo z51 but went out and bought a Strike Master Lite 8" so the wife could drill her own holes last year. The Z51 stays at home now. I love the Honda engine (very quite), no more mixing gas, cuts like a champ and only weighs 23lbs.

I have used all of the augers and electric wins hands down. Gas spills and needs to be services. Also requires it to be summerized in the off season. Propane has a lot of issues. Most of them have been failing in the past. I have used an ION for the last year and the other augers do not make it out of the truck. Even more, all of my friends grab the electric. Only comment is you have to keep the battery warm on really cold days. Buy a small cooler bag and put a couple of hand warmers in the cooler on days.

Not to mention that you save a little money by not buying gas and oil.

I have a Eskimo 45 cc propane 10", bought it at the beginning of last year's season put it hard to work with no issues. Just screwed a new tank on tonight after sitting all spring summer and now fall and it started first pull. I went Eskimo after hearing about some problems with the Jiffy propane augers. Im really happy with the Eskimo tons of power and lots of holes on a tank. Electric or prooane beats hauling gas out any day.

I have had a Jiffy Pro 4 since it come out. It has been an awesome auger. The only issue is the weight.

I have one. I run a Dewalt 20 volt brushless drill with 4 ahr battery on it. Works great. Expensive though.
11 lbs. Fits in my single flip over with cover on.
