Thats big news for that area. The numbers on the MNR Backgrounder show the story.

I think this is a good thing. I love on Scugog, and the walleye numbers are way down. Not sure if its from over harvest or other factors, but this is a good start.

By the sounds of it, over harvesting has very little to do with the decrease in the walleye population. Sounds like spawning areas and the survival of young walleye are more serious issues that need to be looked at. Not sure if closing the season is the ultimate answer, but is probably the easiest and cheapest way for the MNR to say that they "gave it a shot"

If I remember, Scugog was declared a dead lake about 20 years ago because of the acid rain. Used to fish musky there years ago, any attempt to bring the lake back, know matter how severe, is a plus. Great to see the walleye are coming back slowly. Give it time. Just look at Rice Lake.

I caught some big walleye at Scugog last year but no small year class fish. So you may be right about the spawning.
