Regardless of when. Be patient, be safe. Don't be the first to go swimming or worse. And you know there is always one.

What a dumbass way for your better half to get a knock on the door !

I am thinking good ice closer to end of January.

This a good weather website that I have used for a while that has a good long range forecast that is fairly accurate.

http://www.accuweather.com/en/ca/toront ... cast/55488

scroll thru to the end of January and notice how many days are above freezing temps.
It features and good wind prediction for each day.

Al

agreed its going to be a late one, we have been spoiled the last couple of years, everything goes in cycles. I wouldnt get too hung up on the day time highs because they last for 4 hrs or so the other 20 hrs of the day are what make the ice. As long as it gets -5 to -10 at night and most importantly the wind dies down ice will be made. And to look on the positive side, at least we wont be sloughing through 2 ft of snow and slush in Jan!
I like icefishing more than open water fishing to be honest but I dont mind the extended boat season every once in a while. I have been able to get out on lake O a couple times in Dec and I will be taking my canoe out on a back lake this weekend. At least the weather is being consistant. What I really hate at the fall winter transition is when we get fishable ice then it goes away. The boat launches are iced up so you cant hard or soft water fish that really sucks.

Accuweather forecast for Belleville is showing overnight temps below zero starting December 18th and staying in the negatives overnight as far as the forecast shows into mid/late January. Nothing extremely cold, but maybe a good start. Doesn't look like there is gonna be too much snow either.

Ice??? The turkeys were strutting and gobbling this morning when I was out deer hunting and I just came from outside and picked a few worms off the driveway.

The gap will not freeze this winter. Still 45 degree water out there which is unbelievable.

This old guy I know said he found 48 degree water on the st Lawrence last week. Nuts!
