Sounds like from several reports jigging might be the answer, Might be heading up later this week. Whats the technique commonly used on Quinte, dunking minnows ? jigs or spoons ? Any advice appreciated.

Jigging is the practice of fishing with a jig, a type of fishing lure. A jig consists of a lead sinker with a hook molded into it and usually covered by a soft body to attract fish. Jigs are intended to create a jerky, vertical motion, as opposed to spinnerbaits which move through the water horizontally.

LOL thanks Pickerel Killer. I should have been more precise on the wording of my question to prevent from being so embarrassed. I've been a fishing fanatic all my life and never realized that by not jigging a jig that I wasn't jigging. Guess when I've been bouncing a lure off the bottom with say a Sebile Vibrato jigging lure or swedish pimple that I wasn't actually jigging. Also been making the mistake of tipping minnows on those " hooks with moulded weight instead of those soft body plastic things you mentioned. I've tried jerking a spinnerbait but never jigged it. If you ever need advice on Erie perch fishing let me know. We still fish ( no jigging or jerking ) pickerel rigs. Not sure why we call them pickerel rigs when were using them for perch, but I'm sure you will know. Hopefully will get down to Quinte this weekend for some jigging and if I'm real lucky some jerking :0, heard theres a few of them around.

i was out last weekend and we did well jigging with 1/4 and 3/8 ounce with shiners. Seems they are less aggressive so slower sweeps with the occasional pop up to attract them. No hogs but lots of smaller ones a pretty nice small mouth and pike were the highlight fights
