Since there has been a definite lack of reports I thought I'd offer one. My brother in law, my nephew, my young lad and me headed out from the west end of Big Island tonight. Taking advantage of some very smooth ice, we all strapped on the blades and skated out onto Big Bay, going about a km and getting into 18 ft of water. Marked a few and the at 5:45, it was hammer time- iced a pair in the span of 4 minutes and missed two. The brother-in-law had a sportsman release on a 5 pounder.
Fish were caught on a red champ and a green buckshot. Ice was better than a foot.

Nice going. Thats one way to get out to your spot very quickly. Wish it was always like that although a bit of snow cover is better.

More than a foot but not more than 15 inches. Never took an exact measurement, going by the length of the auger.
