I guess I will have to look at them, got a gift card I'm going to get a set.But first HARD WATER,then I think of how they work. HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

no problem tdoug,

to use in line boards simply let out the amount of line you normally do trolling, then attach the board to your line with the two clips, drop it in the water (the board will pull itself out to the side of your boat),then slowly let out the amount of line you want the planerboard out from the boat.

i use the "offshore" brand (yellow in colour) and would recommend these as they are well made and very easy to use. purchase two: one "left" and one "right"

tips:

i recommend mono line for planerboard reels, but if you are using braided line wrap it twice around the clips to prevent it from popping off prematurely (you can adjust the spring tension for the clips as well)

once the board is out to desired length, set your drag light enough that a light pull will take some out, and put your clicker on so that when you get a hit you will hear it. keep your rod tip high to keep the line out of the waves

do slow "s" turns to vary the speeds of the lures-left turn: fast right side, slow left. right turn: slow right side, fast left.that way if a fish hits on the inside turn you'll know they prefer a slower speed. if they hit on the outside they prefer it faster-you get it.

good luck!

Hey Tdoug

Just as "hooked up" mentions, easy as pie!

Incidently, I got the book too! Should make for some great reading!

If you are going to use the Off Shore in line Boards, invest in the new clips that are available for ALL types of lines.

You don;t have to loop your line twice or three times around the clip - they work great. They're a tad priceyif ordered on-line, BUT are available at Gander MOuntain for $9.99 each. Worth the price.

You'll have fun with the Precision Trolling, make sure your line counters are registering the corretc line footage - Check the counters before you go fishing next time. You might be surprised.

Another board are the Church walleye boards, their clips hold superlines and pin release on the back is easier to operate. they also have a ballast weight that can be moved forward or back. roughrider

Hey Don,

is that the boards you run? The back pin idea never thrilled me, how do you find them? Quicker? Easier?

Wig,having run in-lines since the 80's,I can say that the church boards are as good as any out there. The pin is better than opening a snap for sure and the standard release works great for 20lb./6 lb diameter super lines. The ballast weight also moves so you can tilt the board forward or back, depending on pull and drag. I have 4 and sold 2 to Big-o. The off-shores standard clip is junk and the ones I had a chance to use had snaps on the back you had to open to get the line out,not very time efficient.Just my opinion, but I believe Church Boards combined with 8ft. medium action rods are the best out there right now. roughrider

Had never heard of Church Boards until these recent posts. Where can you get them in Ontario; more particularly in the Toronto and east areas? Or do you have to order direct from Church in the States? Thx.

Thx WIG. I had an email back from Church Boards saying that BPS sold them so it just remains to be seen whether the Toronto store has them.

We were at the toronto bass Pro Shop yesterday. They had the church boards in stock. I dont remember the price but I do like the pin release. How does the front clip release?? I would consider a pair but I like the tattle tale flag on the off shore boards. WOnder if I can rig a tattle tale
