I am looking to fish a couple salmon tournaments this summer, so I am looking at fishing 2 of the Port Whitby events, on July 2 and July 24, possibly Aug 20th as well, but I might be away.
My boat is only 17.5 feet, but I have used it numerous times on Lake O and Lake Erie, and handles the water fine as long as not too rough. I am equipped with 2 Scotty electric riggers and numerous rod holders from leadcore, wire dipseys, copper line trolling. I don't have a ton of salmon tackle but enough to get by.
I have never fished a salmon tournament, but it is for a good cause, and should be a good time whether we catch fish or not.
I am looking for a 3rd person to complete my 3 person team, possibly 2 people for 1 tournament, depending on my buddy's work schedule.
I am in Smiths Falls area, so could pick someone up on the way to Whitby or meet down there.
Ideally would go down and pre-fish the day before the tournament, and then return home on tournament day after it is over.
Ideally I would like someone that usually buys or is willing to buy a GOSD ticket, for the slim chance we catch a fish worth weighing in for the GOSD, duirng pre-fish or instead of weighing in for the Whitby derby.
If anyone is interested send my a pm and we can chat.
Below is some info on the tournaments.
The Port Whitby Summer Salmon Series benefitting Ringwood Fish Culture Station will take place on:
Sat July 2 Whitby Derby #1 Note: also start of GOSD Sun July 24 Whitby Derby #2 Note: Whitby harbour day is on Sat July 23 with fireworks show that evening Sat Aug 20 Whitby Derby # 3 Note: also last day of GOSD.
This is a fantastic and affordable single day tournament option for Lake Ontario anglers, with costs being structured at just $25 per rod (up to a max of 6 rods) and $50 entry per boat for the Calcutta. There's a great prize table raffle and BBQ after each event, in addition to cash and gift card payouts, plus a series' long overall champion category. Proceeds from the tournaments go to support the ongoing chinook pen rearing projects being run by Metro East Anglers out of the Ringwood Fish Culture Station.
