Hey guys Scott Walcott here. A lot of you already know that I do some work with Navionics, but I have decided to open a new board name for Navionics related posts. This board name will help newer members realize I am available for Navionics related questions and I will use it to put up Navionics specials and related material. Looking forward to supporting the Quinte anglers.

Thank you to Dan for the great site and all the work you do to keep this site going.

Scott

If I understand your question then you mean which app in the app store to purchase (or which app in the play store for android users). If that is the case then download "Boating US & Canada". This app works basically the same as the Navionics + card in your chartplotter.

The app will have:
Charts - any area in the US and Canada that you want to download
Routing - both autorouting and manual routing
shallow water shading
fishing mode - so you can shade specific areas in the water coloumn.
waypoints - that you can drop on anything you would like
trails - so you can follow your trail back
community edits - so you can see what other people feel is important information.

There are more feautures and functions but those come to mind quickly that are attractive to a fisherman or woman.

Hi Scott. I have the Hotmaps Premium C6 card but I have not used it yet. Does this card have 1' contours for Quinte and Kawartha Lakes?

Thanks.

I am sorry the Hotmaps premium does not have 1' contours.

The cards with the "Sonarchart layer" (which is the 1' contour) are:

Navionics +
Navionics update
Navionics hotmaps platinum
Navionics platinum plus

Scott,
I was able to update a navionics plus card no problem, pretty simple actually. I do have a question about the software I had to download on my computer so that I could update the card. I looked around and couldn't find anyway to change the settings of that software so that the map displays in imperial instead of metric?

What map is displaying in metric? The webapp used to be in metric but that changed. The old fish n chip card was metric but that is like 10 years ago. Everything now should be imperial or in FT.

Scott, I use an old blackberry so what's another device to upload the navionics app onto? Will it work with any or only certain chart plotters or gps units for example?

Use any android or apple tablet. Works the same as it would on the phone. You can connect it to wifi at home and download the map for the area your fishing and then take it on the boat. No internet connection required on the boat since You've already downloaded the map.

BigMac's got the answer for you. Unfortunately the app will not work in a blackberry device. You need an iOS or android device with built in GPS receiver or an external GPS receiver.
