Quinte Fishing

Hi.
I'm looking into buying a Suzuki 6hp kicker on my 17ft legend. (Fishing boat)

Does anybody here runs motor this size on their boat? How well does it propel? Im just looking for motor to troll and auxiliary power.

I do really like the Suzuki 6hp features, light weight, built in gas tank, would be a breeze to mount on little 14 ft tin boat for shallow rivers.

I've got a 4hp and it pushes my 16.5 fibreglass bowrider fine.
I actually have more trouble trying to get it to troll slow on inland lakes.
I liked the idea that it's light on my transom because my boat wasn't quite designed for one
And the 75elpto weighs the stern down enough.

Welcome to the board.

A smaller powered kicker might not afford you the chance to correct your boat in higher winds.

I had a 9.9 on my large boat and found that I didn't have the power to correct when the boat got pushed by the wind. An upgrade to a 15HP made my life much easier.

Something to consider.

I have a 9.9 4 stroke on my 18.5 crestliner. It works great but like superdad said if you get a good gust of wind you have a hard time correcting for it. 99% of the time it's great

I have a 9.9 tracker on my 20 ft. starcraft and it is great for trolling,but will only move the boat at about 10 mp at full speed!

I just picked up a 8 horse 4 stroke for my 16 foot legend just have to get it mounted on the boat now,hoping it work good and saves me some money on fuel.

I have an old (1979) Johnson 6hp on my 19' inboard (Alumacraft). Perfect fit! I can easily troll less than 1 mph for lakers, and up to 2.5 with part throttle. Full pin is about 5.5 mph. There is a significant weight difference between the 6 and a 9.9. IMO, for your size boat I wouldn't go any bigger.
