With the winds set to calm a bit, HayBay Larry, Laker John and I hit the water from Finkles at 0815 and had the rods in at 0830, trollled south shore of Amherst Is, then the north shore past the generating station almost to Lafarge, then back across trolling to the east to Berdans Shoal, then west again.

We trolled in 25' in 30' and in 40'.

The last pass went past the red marker at the end of Amherst into Wemps Bay and back to the marker, then we called it a day at 1530.

We tried Shoehorns, Flicker Minnows, NK28's n nothing was attracting fish.

We met a board member at the launch in the AM and he knew us, we should have exchanged phone nos and we could tell each other what was going on.

There were many trailers at Finkles when we started and more arr'd during the day.

We met a chap who had got a couple small ones with his downriggers down 55', we didn't get that deep.

We tried and came up short, but we had a shake-down for Superdad, ready for the 7th.

Stay Tuned

David aka Superdad

I was fishing off of Bald Head Beach, Southeast of Brighton Bay on Sunday Apr 16/16, when I caught this nice little guy. Promptly took the pictures and successfully released. I believe this to be an Atlantic Salmon. I do believe that a group around here is trying to re-introduce these guys into the Great Lake. The late 70's attempt failed, but I do hope they succeed this time. They are being pen reared all winter, instead of just releasing them, for the last few years.

Great reports guys. Even if you never catch a thing it's still great to be out there. Hopefully your luck will change soon.

I personally would say thats a brown. lots of spots on gill plate and head. Lots of spots below mid-line of body. also, think an atlantic has a slightly forked tail.

You may be right chesapeake. Do Juvenile Browns have spots that look like "X"'s too?

Speaking of Brown's, anyone have any idea if they might still be in Athol bay next weekend? I know its opener for eyes, but just in case, like some options out of the Yak.

Cheers.

I think everyone is correct on the Brown Trout.

Brown trout for sure. The browns will remain in the Athol Bay - West Point area until late June.

After May they will relate to structure and bait which makes the West Point and the Bonnet areas prime target spots. Browns will travel the shoreline. They will never travel more than a mile from shore as long as Water temps and bait are present.

Good luck guys
Al
