Location / Launch - hiding from the west wind this weekend

Hello All. Long time lurker to the site, first time posting. Thanks for all the information and entertainment.
I am planning on a Quinte road trip this weekend staying at the Picton Harbor Inn on Friday and Saturday night. The forecasts all point to some nasty westerly winds for the entire weekend.

I have a reliable 18 foot fishing boat with walk through wind shield with bow cover if needed, but I have a feeling that if I leave from Picton Harbor in the morning, I may not make it back with the strong west wind on the way back.

I am thinking the smart thing to do is to trailer the boat to a sheltered area of the bay to avoid as much chop as I can.

I am thinking anywhere in Picton bay, mouth of Hay Bay, or near the Ferry will be off limits.
Maybe the Long Reach will be protected or deep into Hay Bay would be fine?

Any suggestions on where to target and where to launch when we are up against a strong west wind?

I don't feel its necessary with your rig to trailer it else where. With the high bluff side of Picton bay extending all the way to deseronto, you can start trolling right in Picton and stay close to the bluff. You should be able to troll the out of Picton in the morning up the reach and troll back there at the end of the day like all the charter boats out of Picton Harbour. Watch your time and distance to calaculate how long it will take to troll back

I agree with Dan. Saturday will be totally fine and can fish anywhere based on what I'm seeing 20-25km. I have a 18' Starcraft and have fished it in worse conditions in December.

I'm with the others. You will be fine with an 18'er. Besides that you won't find a more sheltered launch then Picton bay in a west wind so your already in the best case scenario. Forecasters are for sustained of 20-25 km/h and gusts of 30/39 km/h . It will certainly be bumpy but very fishable. Coming back will be rough but again nothing compared to Lake O if you have any experience on the big lake. So from my perspective you'll be fine and typically there is always sheltered water on Quinte to fish. West definitely provides less of it then any other wind though.

All that being said, make sure that you follow your conscience and what you are comfortable with. If you aren't comfortable in it, turn around no matter what anyone tells you.
