Fish was tagged so I called the ministry and they said it was one of a bunch of Lakers tagged last year. I think it's a Splake.

many lake trout have very orange flesh. They can vary a lot depending in the diet and stocked strain.

I'll say Laker. Don't think splake have ever been stocked in the Big Lake.
Lots of splake in surrounding lakes though. Could be wrong.
Okay splaker sounds good.

I think you're right, I couldn't find any history of splake being stocked in lake ontario in the database. A few old guys told me they caught splake at sandbanks years ago but maybe these were actually lake trout? Splake are stocked in dog lake and could migrate down the rideau to lake ontario but would be very rare, there are some monsters in dog lake though, good population of alewifes in the lake.
