I havent been out much lately but did manage some time last friday morning for a few hours. I headed to malloray with a casting rod in hand and a few crankbaits hoping to catch a few eyes. Water was flat calm and there were about a dozen boats in the area. Didnt catch anything and chatted with the boats in the area and only one of them had caught a small walleye. Time to head back to the camp and hit a few bass spots on the way. It was slow and a tough bite. At one point drifted out into the deeper water, 23-30' and saw a few fish, in a pack, on bottom. What the heck, grabbed the drop shot rig out of the rod locker and dropped it down. Picked up a largemouth 3.8 then another and one more. The last 2 both around 3lbs but didnt weigh them. Ive caught smallies that deep but not largies. Spent another hour there and nothing else. FYI

i get them in 22-24 FOW at the cottage quite a bit actually even got them opening day out there doing it. nothing even on the graph shows that there should be even fish there IE sticks, humps, etc. just a flat flat bottom with bait. i see the bait balls suspended then drop my drop shot bait down. pretty much always get bit 80 percent of the time once that bait gets down there. its pretty interesting at times and also frustrating. you think they are smallies or eyes, but are in fact largies.

I've never tried it in deep water for buckets, but we do it all the time in the shallow weeds. 1/4 or 1/2 ounce weight with a very short pitch out from the boat. Senko wacky rigged on the drop shot hook

Look up Buck Perry. An old physics professor who developedawhole way to search find and catch largemouthin deep water. An that was all done without electronics
