Was heading out to fish on Sat AM and saw that John Uzick and his group were still at Hay Bay. Stopped and chatted for a bit, swapped lies and other stuff.
I headed out and went to Thompsons Pt and fished the weed line over there for an hour and half, nothing but perch and sunfish and a visit from the Conservation Officers, checking licenses and knowledge of the slot size.
Headed back to the Old CHurch weedline, found John and his group over there, they had a couple. I wasn't able to find a fish at all. End of fishing for Saturday.
Sunday AM, my Dad came out and we got away and headed back to the Church weed line again, Landed a nice 16" eye on the Chartruse Uzick spinner, fished around there for another hour with no further action.
Headed over to Shermans Pt, eight boats there, didn't see much action as we got close, BUT, once we started the fish turned on. In a little over and hour and a quarter, we landed eight fish, from 15" to 22", they were hitting the Florescent Red Uzick spinner.
John had given a small bag with a dozen of the red spinners and I began to distribute em to some of the other boats, who weren't having any luck. Within five minutes a lady in a small boat landed one on the spinner and yelled her thanks. Saw them later in the day and they had landed another four or five fish.
Gave a couple to one of the campers at Bayview and his and family went out in the afternoon and they landed a nice stringer of seven fish. It was his best fishing at Shermans.
I went back to Shermans at 1745 in a heavy wind and started again, the wind died and I fished until 1915, landing another five fish in the 12" to 16" range.
I talked to Hay Bay Larry and they were out early Sunday AM over at Thompsons and they landed over 10, using gold spinners and worms.
EVERYONE was catching fish on Sunday.
The fishing was superb and the majority of fish are below the 19"-25" range. In our case it was over 90% below the slot size.
Hope everyone get a chance to get out and give it a try.
