I plan on renting an overnight bungalow for a few days fishing for walleye, but not sure if I should go early, mid or late winter. Just wondering if anybody could offer up some advice if anybody has experience out there.

Thanks in advance.

There is a chance the sport fishery for walleye could be closed completely on Nipissing soon, I would hold off and research a bit before investing any cash.

Sounds like it was a request thrown out there by the Nipissing First Nations to the MNR. Slot size seems strange there. You are only allowed to keep walleye over 18 inches (roughly 2 pounders). You would think they would want the 3-6 pounders released rather than the small dinks.
Thanks for the heads up though!!

I used to hit nippissing once every winter till they dropped the limit to 2 fish, and nothing under 18 inches. waste of time and money with Quinte only 45 minutes away ... we always got lots there, but not many over 18 inches.

The 2 fish limit isn't an issue. We will be staying for 3-4 days with 5 people and we don't need to keep 15-20 fish/day. When renting a cottage or anything else for a 3 or 4 day stay, you need to book it well in advance to get what you want on certain weekends. I would prefer to go to Quinte, but it is nearly impossible to book anything in advance due to unpredictable ice conditions. I've had many 3-4 day trips to Quinte on hard and soft water that were a waste of time and money due to weather/ice conditions, but you can't predict that.

We have been staying at Reeds out of Sunset Park for the last few years. Great set up with two huts. One for fishing and cooking and the other for sleeping. We usually get quite a few jumbo perch, ling, herring and a few walleye. Even got some nice pike a few years but not last year.
