My wife gets very nervous when I go ice fishing
with reports of a drowning in Trenton.

What do you think a fisherman on Quinte should do,
in order to stay safe on the ice?

What is standard safety equipment on Quinte?

These are some of the items I use:

1. Atlantic Class Full body Survival Suit.
- Fully zipped up, all straps at wrists, waist and legs tight
whenever you are walking on unknown ice thicknesses.

2. Rapala Ice Grippers
- Hand type with cord that ties to your survival suit.
You won't get out without them.

3. Ice Grippers on you Boots.
- Full foot type. Good for safe walking and could
help you get back on ice if you fall in.

4. Neoprene Gloves.
- Gives you full use of your hands during emergency.

5. Hand Ice Pick.
- You can check ice conditions ahead of you as you walk.

6. Watch Weather conditions. Make you own decision. Always
decide not to go if conditions are not confirmed by a reliable
source (That's a hard one)

7. Leave the car on the shore, leave the ATV and Snowmachine
on shore when there are reports of bad or new ice.

It's always a good idea to head out with a friend. If you walk
out on the ice together, the lead person could drag 50 feet of
rope behind them. The rop could come in handy if the lead
falls in.

I go out myself at least half the time. I pick the safest time to
do this.

My wife doesn't let me out of the house unless I bring Safety with me.

We all should, in the wake of what happened in Trenton this week.

Sounds like you got it covered. The only thing you forgot is the lines, hooks and minnows LOL. My wife is the same way. She freaks out when I go out. I make sure not to go where no one already has been or is. If they made it out there I should be able to also. I won't be the first one on the hardwater to explore a new spot even if the fish are there. There is not a fish in Quinte worth going thru the ice. Good luck.

Perhaps we can all go out ice fishing and have our wives get together and go shopping so they don't sit at home and worry because my wife worries also. Another good idea is a cell phone
