Fastdog,

It's funny you should ask about fishing shallow. I have fished
many lakes that only produce walleye in the shallows during the
winter. In the 5 foot and under range.

When I start fishing in Deseronto for Walleyes about 8-9 years
ago I would fish very close to shore out from the boat ramp at
the Bridge. The water was no deeper than 10 feet. One morning
the fish hit every time you dropped the line in. It was unbelievable.
Fish would hit what felt like a few feet below the ice. The lure would
not even hit bottom and a fish would hit it. I guess these days are
over.

Maybe they aren't. I don't fish close to shore any more for some
reason. I'm out in the main channel in 24 feet with everyone else.

I tried it once about 5 years ago. I got alot of funny looks as people
walked by me for another 500 ft. I didn't have any luck that day. I
haven't done it since. I wish I would have caught something that day.

Maybe you could try. I don't want to go through the shame of small
children pointing at me again. "Daddy, you can't catch fish here can
you".

Hey, why not give it a shot :!: May work out in your favour. Just try pick a spot near a drop off if you can. maybe you can do both in the same relative area.

Goodluck :!:
