Walleyes and Smallmouth - Wolfe Lake, Westport, Ontario???

Heading to Wolfe Lake in two weeks. Any recommendations on lures, bait, etc. to help me land some fish fo my 14 year old son? Planning on fishing by small boat. Please email jim.kremmel@conectiv.com.

Jim,

As you probably know Wolfe Lake is very clear. Some of my best fishing there has been Walleyes at night. As far as smallmouth go, if your on the lake during the day I would recommend Carolina rig rubber worms and especially a 3 or 4 inch "reaper". Since the water is clear I have had best results with long casts in and around weedy and sandy bottoms for smallies this way. Also, and here is a hot tip, keep your eyes open in the area directly below the big cliff in about 8 to 12' of water...If you see crayfish on the bottom the smallies are there! Its been a few years since I have fished that lake but many folks will be trolling for eyes. Ask around when you get there and even if the fishing is slow the clear water is always a thrill when your just drifting around. Good Luck and lets have a report when you return...........Len
