Did this snow push the ice down, bring the water up for a slushy mess that'll turn into 5 inches of white ice by Friday? - that's probably the best I could hope for ... or are we looking at 1/2 inch of black ice with a 6 inch warm snow blanket on top ...

I'd say you are looking at a 5 inch snow blanket on top of 2 inches of black ice. My brother in law and his kids were back out on Weller's skating Sunday morning (you can get away with that when you are 135 lbs LOL) and he reported 2 inches of ice. He dropped a line in 5 feet of water just to say he was the first one fishing this winter.....
PREDICTION TIME
What I think will happen is that the snow will become slush, the black ice will be protected and we will all be thankful for a -20 cold snap that's coming at the end of the week. By Friday morning, the usual safe spots with low current should be ok for walking for those that don't mind fishing on 4 inches and take all the necessary safety precautions (which if you don't know what they are, you probably shouldn't go this weekend).

If my sources are to be believed, there's 3-4 inches of ice in some areas and there are guys out.
