It won't be long when the ice walkers and that includes me, trudge through the deep snow with our toboggans. Anyone selling Smitty sleighs? I hear they ride effortlessly above the snow.

you do about 25% of the work than without it...add a shoulder/body harness to it and you can literally walk kilometres almost effortlessly

I've had mine for a few years and what a difference, my gear is over 100 lbs and the wife made me a harness from a backpack and it tows effortlessly... best piece of equipment yet !!! Mind you I am getting older so anything that helps is a bonus....

just build one its easy and worth it, I dont use mine too often anymore but I do go backcountry winter camping and the smitty is able to haul close to 200lbs of gear. Dont usually promote another fishing site on here but check out ice shanty you can find the build plans for the original smitty sled by user smitty0312 and there are pages of add ons and various mods

Here is one i designed and built a couple years back. it comes apart for easy storage and transport. My pelican sled sits on top held on with 2 black rubber bungee cords to the eye bolts fastened to the bottom of the frame. The top wood fits snug in place to keep it from shifting and is held by leg bolts dropped into holes. the holes are slightly bigger then the bolts so no tools are needed to dismantle. if in Kingston, go to salvation army on bath road or bibles for missions on princess near Costco, they usually have some cheap skis there. also Kijiji is a good source. Avoid value village as they are way over priced when they have them.

I made it a little different than I drew it to make it a tight fit. I did not want the skis to shift at all. here are some pictures of how it all fits together.

it has a few chips from getting frozen up but still as strong as it was when i made it 3 years ago.
another bonus is i keep my auger and extra gear in the sled and on windy days i put the sled on the windy side of my pop up and hook the bungee cords between the sled and my hut. Sun has melted anchors out of the ice a few times but this always keeps it in place. Not fun chasing a hut down the ice lol.
