I not sure about the east side of the cables but yesterday there was only one inch on the west side.
The Reach was wide open friday morning. I heard from a reliable source that the ice breaking tug went from Belleville out into the Lake and it open it up.
Snowing in the County now. Have had about 3 inches already this morning.
I can wait another week to hit Quinte, will just fish in front of the house on West Lake.

Al

We fish the cables all the time. I'm the son of the owner of the dew drop in. We fished the cables Friday night on 3". 3 1/2 Saturday morning. And what we was told is there is 4 plus inches now. There was 2 guys Saturday morning 3/4 of the way across to greens point. Not 100% sure on how much ice they were on but they were out there. My dad fished huffs tonight and he said he had about 3" there. There was a few guys out at huffs tonight also. Couple fish were seen caught

And that right there is why I don't comment or post much someone always takes it the wrong way.

Want my honest opinion. I lived on hay bay for 28 years. The best way to find ice reports is to go check yourself. And if you live to far away and you read this forum a lot like most out of towners. Than maybe listen to some guys with experience on the ice and know the high end current areas. The bay is tricky place and can't be a b**ch in places. If someone wants my opinion on something pm me it will be my opinion only

sorry Bass. not here to cause you harm....... and I understand posts and how they work read the whole thread a guy asks about the cables one guy clearly says one thing and another guys pretty much says the complete opposite same area just one side verses the other I'm sure neither guy is wrong I just have to wonder how it can be so different and we are talking what? 4 hundred yards?? yes welcome to early ice ....... When trannyman says county side has one inch and you say 3 1/2 did you say that to call Trannyman a lire? Most of us could care less who is on the ice, but I'm also sure NONE of us want to see harm come to anyone this is also why a lot just wont post at all , You said you were out there Friday but you never said you saw any open water out there, and there was open water this comes from a guy who actually lives right there now this is a tad north of the cables yet right in front of the cables as far as the Nappanee side goes.......... last month if you made a post it was looked at by 50 people in a day right now you make a post and its looked at by 900 in a day they all want to know ice conditions so they can get out there . there is a lot of places to fish right now the experienced know where to go. and what to do. every year its the same old thing so please forgive me when I get a lil laugh at what I read. be safe everyone early ice is dangerous........... for the record I was standing beside Trannyman and saw the one inch of ice but that was the county side and you could clearly see snow on the ice on the other side out of the current and I have no doubt it was fishable on that side where the county side you would have been a fool to try to go out more than a couple feet off shore and people can take that for what its worth .

With shoals current snowload and wind the ice thickness can and often does go from 4 to 1 inch in a couple of yards thisway or that.

I for one am a Looky Lou and have no reason to post anything as far as the ice goes I am 3 hours away from the bay. And God forbid I asked about the ice. When I feel there should be some fishable ice I will venture out and check myself. But if anyone is willing to share some info. in the form of a PM I will greatly appreciate it . For now you locals enjoy the space and tight lines.... be safe...Simon.
