Quinte Fishing

The Belleville Police Service/Association will be hosting the Cops, Kids ice fishing Derby on Saturday the 18th of February 2017 from 09:00am to noon. Location will be near the Herchimer boat launch in Belleville, there will be a fenced off area on the ice for the derby. The derby will be open to all youths up to and including 12 years of age. The ice fishing derby will be free to all youth, the first 60 youth get a toque and sunglasses. There will also be free hot chocolate for youth and coffee for the caregivers. The ice fishing derby will subject to weather/ice conditions. There will be loaner ice fishing rods for the youth in case they don’t have an ice fishing rod. There will also be free bait for the youths.

Hopefully you get some more winter temps to thicken the ice up for such a worthy event.
One suggestion may be to chum the waters early to ensure a good population of pan fish for the youngsters.

Cops,kids fishing derby.....
On the 15th in am going to drill some holes at the anticipated location and if there is 8 inches of ice or more it's a go. If not 8 inches then I will post that the derby is cancelled and advise the media. It will be so great for the kids if it flys.

I checked the ice today and it's 15inched thick. The derby is on, hope to see lots of members from this board there.

The Cops, Kids fishing derby was a success, we hoped for 20-40 kids and we ended up with 180 kids. Great Volunteers, lots of happy kids, awesome weather. May thanks to all the volunteers, to all the caregivers who brought kids out, to Protackle for supplying minnows and Statefarm (John Harvey) for supplying coffee, Hot Chocolate and Timbits.

Special Thanks to members from this board who came out and punched holes for the kids, it was cool to meet some of the board members today as well. We have such a nice area for fishing and we can help teach kids to fish.
