for those of you fishing off big island, how far out are you going? maybe the fish are out farther on different structure? has anyone made it out to the shoal or tried crossing over to the island to the northeast (grape island?)

I went out off Herchimer in belleville last saturday/sunday and yesterday. Yesterday i walked from Herchimer almost all the way out to the island (i think its called cow island) ontop of a shoal Navionics had marked and All 3 times only caught some dink perch. Marked a fish or 2 but kept marking some BIG schools of bait fish. I thought it was just me because im just gettig into ice fishing over the last couple years and fishing Bay of quinte and walleyes this year. I grew up on the south shore of hay bay as a little kid and remember fishing shermans point with my old man, we've gone out a fee times over the years in the boat but never on the ice. Its good to know the bites slow/off and its not something im doing/not going haha.

Fishing huffs today on 4" of good clear ice, spudded my way out a bit to the left in 26ft, marked lots this morn, lost 2 decent fish between 7:30-8:30am orange buckshot 2 minnows, guess I'm a bit rusty lol, hoping they're back tonight, looks like a pressure crack to the right of launch and stretching across to north shore, stay safe and carry a spud.

Ive heard theres some pretty nasty pressure cracks out there. There was a pretty big one whwre i was in Belleville but it had frozen back up solid yesterday when i was there. Where abouts is Huffs? Im not to familiar with the area, i really only know shermans point and cant wait till theres enough ice to fish it.

I've also heard from a good friend that the fishing has been terrible. But then I heard from this other guy I talk to once in a while, that his friend was 'catching hawgs in big bay'. I very much doubt that last part but thought I'd share anyway.

Nice info guys..... Bubble I did hear of a 14 plus caught in BB last week before the rains.... I don't doubt that a lot of big fish in that bay but defiantly not pigs in numbers yet this year from what I gather.

Great thread Grizzly! I definitely can confirm the area I fish the walleye bite hasn't really been off at all this season. Very few nights so far the group we fish with have ended up skunked. We are finding our most success in 10-14 fow and mostly a dusk bite. Buckshots/Pimples (tipped with 2/3 minnows) and as pickeralkiller already said the sebile vibrato in natural shiner has been killer so far this year. Many dinks but plenty from the 2 -8lb range as well. There "may" even be a video of a fish I fought for 20 minutes the other night floating around on the interwebs? ;)

Good luck and stay safe !
Randy

I fished 2 days Saturday & Sunday...caught 1 small dink. I fished Wagers, Shermans, Huffs. Huffs had the least ice 3-4" & Wagers 6-7" the most. I threw everything at them from Blue to Neon yellow glow...3/8 to 3/4oz, single, double, triple Minnows! Jigged all through the colum. In the end the 2 days reminded me of my highschool sex life lots of lookers no takers!

Well boys there you have it........ as usual its hit or miss one guy gets nothing another 100 yards away gets into the fish lol . never be quick to move. but when do you know its time to move? lol . I talked to friends who fished same area I did the next day and they got fish....... they had a slow start and fish started biting at 1 pm yep mid day lol go figure ... they went from no fish to 5 fish in an hour.. that's usually the way it goes on Big Bay you just never know when the fish move into an area.......... I suffer from too many friends with too many places to fish lol how many times do we actually leave fish to find fish? there is a lot to be said about waiting out the bite..

Gone Fishin are you fishing in Zone 20 BOQ waters?? Are you not fishing up the Trent River, and therefore not dealing with the amount of shad and Baitfish coming outta the lake that everyone on here is dealing with?????
