I seen a sturgeon apparently caught in the bay over the week end. Anyone else seen or heard where it was caught? The pic I seen was on a face book page my son and his buddies use. Pretty sure its called quinte 360. I'll double check fb page name... it's a good size sturgeon gotta b in 40" range. .

I hope they released it, they sure don't want to get caught with it. It is illegal to target sturgeon in Ontario although I hear some do under the guise of fishing cats. There was always a small population in the Trent and i suspect the Bay.

Glad it was safely released. If you were able to post the picture I would love to see it. I heard Dr. John Cassleman was involved in the netting of one around 100 lbs in the St. Lawrence. It is legal to fish for them in Quebec and there is a catch and release fishery down around Montreal. I understand they get some 5 foot fish but nothing like out in BC.

That is an AWESOME fish.
However from a MNR standpoint I think it was illegal to photograph this fish in zone 20...

Really awesome catch though

I have a photocopy at my cabin, with 2 BOQ sturgeon; one being 180 pds taken in a commercial net (Prince Edward County area) and another being bigger (this is the picture I have), at an estimated 6 ft, caught by the Allen family out of Adophustown.

I have also heard of one being taken with a spear in the Napanee River near the falls back in the 1930's and some smaller samples caught about 10 years ago.

Napanee

I will see about posting one, when I am able to access my cabin in the spring. It is pretty darned cool to see, knowing how big they can get in our home waters.
