Just looking for some info on the ice on wellers. Never fished it personally but going with a buddy. We're just trying to find out if it's safe for bike and sled travel or need to give these size 12s a good workout

Thanks

Depending on where you are intending to launch the conditions will vary. It appears to have some wood huts out in one area that would potentially tell me there is likely some decent ice but it's not in my opinion the area of the bay to fish. The area I like to target where unsafe as of Monday morning and that was in foot. Open water on west side if bay as of Sunday morning as well. Hope this helps. If you pm I can help you with any further info you may require.

I was on it Sunday am and, like any other places this winter with the exception of Potters or Big Bay/Wagers, it can be sketchy. There was a massive open hole in the middle off the Edwards drive boat lunch and then another open area about 200 m north of us where we were fishing (west end)
I managed one 6.5 pounder, two other guys had three of varying size. If you know the bay and know where the safe ice typically is, you would be fine. About 8 inches of ice where we were. If you don't know it, I wouldn't venture out on it. The creeks are still flowing and it is screwing everything up....
Since there's been a real lack of fish porn this season, here's my catch.

Rob, I was at Wellers yesterday. A lot of good ice but a lot not safe. We tried to get to out favorite place but had to turn back. When we got to 8 fow there was only an inch. Spud went thru with one shot.
I could see open water in the center. we had to go to plan B. second location had 9 inches.

Be careful and spud your way out.

Al

Any updates on the ice? Im planning on heading out with the kids tomorrow out of smokes point and with these warm temps I'd like to have an idea before we head out.

Thanks
Rob
