Hate to bug you guys again, but getting itchy and curious if the boat launch in Bath is free of ice. Wind guru has Saturday as a possibility but keeps getting worse lol. Any info would be appreciated.

Yesterday, Feb.8 concrete ramp and parking lot were clear just some loose ice pushed up on steel grate so bring a spud.
Just watch for the hole in the steel along right side.

Good luck if you get out.

has anyone approached the town or whoever controls the park about repairing the hole? I would think there could be some easy solutions grating or steel plate. I haven't seen it as I haven't been since last April May but I'd rather suffer the bugs than the cold.

I emailed loyalist township, the great water way and quinte tourism last fall. Loyalist township was the only response I got stating something along the lines of it would be brought forward to a town meeting. Never heard anything else from them and no responses from the other 2.

I hope they do more than just patch the hole. They need to add a 40' dock. This is one of the worst docks to approach with a strong south west wind. I do it alone quite often and thankfully I have a talon to to hold the boat while I make a run for my vehicle

Yes I wish they'd add a wood dock at the bath and Collins bay launches would make launching so much easier.

Thanks Hans, the wife is sick and ranting again no way I'm making it out today. Wind guru looks good too, its a shame not to take advantage of open water and no wind. I'm still itchy and will be posting about finkles again this week. Thx Again

North channel is locked up with ice. Good thing you didn't try saturday, the ice was packed in at Finkles. Looking like the weather might be just cold enough to keep the ice in but not cold enough to make good ice unfortunately.

Thanks for the info Eves, glad to know I didn't miss out on any Lakers. I know next week has 4-5 days above zero with some wind leading up to it, it be nice to get one more trip in before it locks up for good. Do you have any idea when it usually locks up and re opens in the spring. We usually fish out of wellington late April and was wondering if bath is open any sooner. I come down from Ottawa 20+ times a year in the fall and a few in the spring, any info helps.

Thanks

On a typical year, it is usually open early to mid-april. But this year I doubt it will freeze solid given what the long term forecast says. Last year was similar, I was out in my boat March 13, but there was a lot of ice still and the north channel was still full of ice and impassable. Send me a PM if you ever want to know if the launch is clear at Finkles.

I'm betting it'll be clear again by mid week. Warm temps and some wind will take care of business. I hope!
