Still a H.W. Virgin !!! - Long Reach Report

We (Laker John & I) were able to get out to fish today(Sunday-30th), picked up bait in Battersea, headed to Hay Bay to pick up the gear.

Parked at Shermans Pt Launch and headed out to Long Reach. We walked for 45 mins to get to our 'Spot' on Long Reach. That meant lining up the stars and the moon and various pieces of the local landscape.

Started fishing at 1045, I think I had a hit, sure was a soft take - Missed.

Laker John had a hit and missed, but at 1250 he had a hit and a solid take. Fish landed, Pix taken and measured with TWO tapes - 18.75"

Laker John had another soft strike and then at 1430 he had a hit and semi solid hook up. Two - three turns of the reel and GONE :cry:

That was IT. Visited by MNR for a creel census, the fish was carefully measured on their steel ruler and it was under 18.99". We knew that

Fished until 1600 and headed back to the shore.

I am still a Hard Water Virgin - thought today might have been the day :cry:

MNR Chap said he hadn't seen many fish today visiting the anglers on the ice, BUT, Saturday had been good at Big Island, Belleville and Trenton. Oh well, c'est la vie.

The weather was spectacular - NE wind in our backs and around 1330 the wind died and the sun SHONE and was quite warm - Great day on the ice.

Hey Superdad,

Thanks for the report! All I can say about hard water fishing is first, go buy a Vex (if you don't already have one) and second, when working your lure more often than naught, less is more.

Hoping to get down to Deseronto/Belleville in the next couple of weeks, but Simcoe is sooo close! :wink:

heading down to haybay on the weekend if you are around drop by i will be out from the boat ramp at shermans striat out in 30ft of water driving a honda atv with a clam hut behind it.first trip down this winter cant wait.

Dear Superdad
I have the utmost confidence, that you will get that HW walleye in no time. Sure it can be a character builder at time.......brrrrrrr.......but the generaly short afternoon "ideal" fishing times will seem like nothing.

Getting used to the bite on the drop can take time, with some people seemingly having a magic touch. I have seen one gentleman I know, seem like he was surounded by walleye in Deseronto....meanwhile....I was happy to get one.

Heck....writing about it, makes me wish I was there myself.

as soon as i learn how to put a picture on here i will post my 12lb 3 oz'er
that i had mounted, was caught last feb @ the same location.

You will get em next time.... it won't be long, good picture , and report, I have to get up there and try fo a hawg....been going to Montreal ...been getting a lot there ...but no size....well eating size

...last weekend we managed 38 walleye/Sauger and a couple of Ling and two perch....(4 of us)...looking forward to meeting you soon
