...that there will be enough ice on Quinte on Wednesday March 15 2017 to safely go ice fishing. I'm stopping for the day/night in Trenton and it looks like it will have been FREEZING for over a week. Anyone willing/able to report on the ice conditions in this thread? Feel free to also tell me I'm crazy and there is no chance. And a recommendation for a good access spot in Trenton would be great too. Thanks folks!!!
Steve

Don't think you are crazy at all, Brother in Law went perch fishing on Wellers on Saturday and found 8 feet of water and 7 inches of ice...Not sure where near Trenton on the Bay would be safe but you might find something....

We've had three drownings this past weekend, one person on Buck Lake, two people on the
big Rideau near Portland. The two in Portland knew that lake like the back of their hand. I would be awfully careful as these lakes are further north and would have been colder days and nights the past few days. Don't let that dream be a nightmare for your family.

Be cautious of course and keep matters in perspective as those two incidents involved an ATV and a truck.

The bay of Quinte was wide open on March 2 from Trenton to Belleville, there is some sluch ice forming now but nowhere safe enough to go on.Your best idea is to keep dreaming.

I don't know who I'm more disappointed in...the people who are judging anglers from shore saying the province should ban activities that have been going on for centuries OR the guys who have been taking trucks and ATVS/Sleds on to the ice when foot travel would suffice and be much safer.

My advice, if you don't know the body of water well, stay home this time of year. If you do go out, walk slow with a spud. Warm weather and rain for just a few days last week ate a foot of ice on Dog Lake where I fish. Even after this cold snap I walked out on 5 inches last night and was surprised to see a large patch of open water ... probably should have turned around earlier but did get some sense eventually and backtracked to safer ice.

You might be on the Trent but not anywhere near where the op is asking about.

ya wayne the mouth is open but ten minutes north on the Trent you could find yourself on 14" of ice.... thanks for your 2 cents as always.

The op asked about Quinte/Trenton not Frankford/Glen ross area.

OP likely doesn't realize walleye season is finished in zone 20 or 17, wayne. All I'm saying is there is great fisheries in this area rather than just the BOQ with species open all season... 10 minutes north is not that far of a drive to get on safe ice and do what we love... oh, that's right, you don't really ice fish as much anymore, do you?

If you ever needed proof it's pointless to come on this forum and ask about ice conditions on the Bay of Quinte, please see this thread.

I'm fine with driving ten minutes north... where would I access the Trent to get to the safe ice Wayne / Gone Fishin'? I appreciate your help with this!
