Well, with about five weeks to go, I'm starting to envision what this years opener will be like, and to make plans for it. So, I'm curious as to how, others think this years opener will unfold. I wonder if the mild or harsh winter(not quite sure where this past winter rates) will effect the timing of the spawn ect ect.
Do you think it will be an early spawn and the migrating fish will have mainly come and gone(poor opener, lower water ect), about average, or late(higher water ect)... therefore possibly really good.....smaller returns of migrating fish for other reasons ect ect...any thoughts?

I think there's too many variables to hazard a guess. I basically keep my fingers crossed and deal with whatever nature gives me.

Over the years we did have some surprises. One opener in the 80's was "T" shirts and shorts, really warm and the fishing was nuts. Lot's of doubles and triples. They were small but everywhere.

Haven't seen that since.

Think my best was three? years ago ,fish were still in the river, somewhat , there was pretty decent size to them, the water was higher than the last two years or so, with some decent flow, and seemed a little cooler. The fishing was great, for both Sat and Sunday, and the following weekend I was still catching fish at the mouth of the Trent, in the swell that had moved in, although they were generally smaller. The last two openers, I really haven't had much luck, caught other species, just not walleye.

What we need is 4/5 days of good sunshine with light winds! That will rev everything up!
Because opener is usually a zoo, I resort to pike fishing and try to stay away from the crowds.
Hopefully we aren't catching oily fish!!
